Who is Brittany?
she/her
Brittany is a Registered Psychologist here in Alberta, who has been working in the mental health field for over 10 years now. When she is not practicing as a therapist, she is off wearing the many other hats she has including being the Co-Founder of The Intersection Podcast.
She is a lover of dogs and plants, a travel and comic enthusiast, and has an enormous book collection.
How does Brittany Practice?
Brittany mainly practices from a trauma-informed and humanistic perspective, with an eclectic approach to help meet people where they’re at. What does this actually mean? Basically that you are her boss.
In this approach Brittany sees you as the expert of your lived experiences. At the end of the day we are all unique in our wants, needs, and desires, and what works for some does not mean it will always work for everyone. In Brittany’s approach the aim is to work with you and figure out what is working, what needs to change, and how we can get there together. It is not like going to the doctors- she does not prescribe. It’s a collaborative process where your voice, opinions, and experiences matter, are important, and are relevant.
Being trauma-informed means that as a practitioner, Brittany recognizes that sometimes our life experiences shapes and changes the way we experience things, that trauma can make our healing process a little more difficult to navigate, and that it may take more time to build that trust between each other. Trauma-informed care is defined as practices that promote a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing.
